Mission Statement: “To show God’s Love in Every way Possible to the Local Community”
From Rev Jane Weedon
Dear Friends,
When we read about the early church in the book of Acts what we might call ‘Christian values’ become evident in their story. The first of these is that in the church we are ‘All involved’.
Acts 2:44-47 “And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything they had. They shared the proceeds with those in need. They worshipped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper and shared their meals with great joy and generosity – the whole while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of the people. And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved”.
Paul talks about us all being part of “The Body” and each having our part to play. This is a really strong analogy because most of us know how difficult it is to have a part of our physical body that is not working smoothly. It slows us down, makes us sluggish and generally leaves us feeling unwell – not firing on all cylinders!
The good news is that church is not just for people who have great faith and skills to match but for everyone who is seeking Jesus. Remember what Jesus achieved with 5 small loaves and 2 fish. If we offer who we are and do what we can do and encourage others to do likewise Jesus will honour that in miraculous ways. If we don’t our particular part of the body of believers will be less effective.
The church is not just local or denominational but worldwide and it is important for us to know what life is like for Christians in other parts of the world. This month this magazine features
- Jamaica, our Commitment for Life Partner as we approach Harvest and our annual offering.
- At the Harvest Supper at Woodhall Lane on October 6th there will be opportunity to hear about The Good News Children’s Home in Mombasa and the life of the young people there.
- There is also a letter I found on the Internet from Canon Andrew White, an Anglican priest in Baghdad
- News of Sara and Hannah’s trip to Costa Rica.
Please reflect on these stories and consider what life is like for these people and allow your reflections to become prayers. “If one part suffers all the parts suffer with it…” (1 Cor 12:26) How might you respond to make a difference?
Christians are in the world together. I read recently – there is no such thing as private or individualistic Christianity. We need to get involved in the lives of others, here and across the world. How else are we to enjoy our own relationship with God?
Every blessing
Jane
